MERIDIANVILLE, AL – SEPTEMBER 24, 2019: Haley Gentle, 28, holds her 8 month-old daughter Reagan at the Meridianville Ball Park.
More than half of all states have passed laws to protect the rights of pregnant and nursing moms in the workplace. Alabama isn’t one of them. While on maternity leave with Reagan, Gentle put in a request with her employer for two 20-minute unpaid breaks during the work day, anticipating the need to pump breastmilk after she returned to work. Soon after delivering the request by letter, Gentle was informed that her offer to return to work after leave was withdrawn by the employer.
