BIRMINGHAM, AL – JANUARY 27, 2016: John George, 63, stands near his 2014 Ford Taurus. When purchasing the vehicle in 2013, George became frustrated when the dealership informed him he was ineligible for special financing due to poor credit. George, who is financially stable, has purchased multiple vehicles with cash in his lifetime and decided early on to “not play the credit game. It’s just the way I was raised,” George said. “You only borrowed money for an asset that appreciates in value. If you had the money you bought it, and if you didn’t have the money, you didn’t. It was that simple."
