BARDSTOWN, KY – JUNE 14, 2021: Jackie “Jackrabbit” Allen, 63, grabs his rifle from the bedroom before heading out for the day. On June 21, 2000, while helping a friend cut timber, a limb fell and hit Jackrabbit in the back of the head, fracturing his neck and back. He was flown by helicopter to an intensive care unit in Louisville, Kentucky, where he recovered for 28 days. The accident left Jackrabbit nearly paralyzed, and years later his mobility remains diminished. Each morning he complains of constant back pain.
